Issue/Question:
Tabling the Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy
Suggested Response:
•Thank for your question on this very important work.
•As the Minister for PrairiesCan, I am pleased to announce the tabling in the House of Commons, of the Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy.
• I want to take a moment to acknowledge the efforts of the late Honourable Jim Carr, MP Ben Carr’s father. The Building a Green Prairie Economy Act is part of his legacy.
• He saw this legislation as a way for governments, industry, and communities to collaborate for a prosperous economic future for the Prairies.
• The Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy represents a commitment to working differently, to collaborating more closely with Prairie governments, businesses and communities for a prosperous and sustainable Prairie economy.
• Soon I will be announcing further details to support the implementation of the framework.
Background:
If prompted on federal-provincial collaboration:
• The Framework to Build a Green Prairie Economy is about being place-based: respecting jurisdictions and strengthening local collaboration to advance regional economic opportunities.
• Provinces are important partners to achieve the aim of this Act. I will continue to engage my provincial counterparts on this initiative.
If prompted on development of the Framework:
• The Framework was developed with widespread input from stakeholders and people living and working on the Prairies.
• What we heard informed the Framework and identified priority areas for implementation.
• Success will also be guided by strengthened coordination among federal departments that serve the Prairies. Over the past year, I have been working with my Honourable colleagues from nine (9) departments who are supporting this framework. I thank them for their efforts.
• I am looking forward to working with partners to strengthen the Prairie economy.
Additional Information:
If prompted on Indigenous engagement:
• Meaningful engagement and collaboration with Indigenous partners
are essential to the successful implementation of this Framework.
• I will continue to work with our Indigenous partners across the Prairies to ensure meaningful and robust engagement takes place in the implementation of this framework.
